As well as this he is the secretary of his local church, where he is also a lay preacher. This experience comes in useful when he’s coordinating our “Good News” programme every Sunday!
A big sports fan, David was the secretary of Walton Villa FC for 28 years.
David likes all kinds of music, ‘provided it has good music and good words’. He is especially fond of classical music (his cousin is a conductor) and is also fond of Country and Western, particularly Johnny Cash.
In his spare time David runs a weather station (which he inherited from his father 35 years ago) and between them, they have detailed records going back to 1945! What with all of this, David is a very busy man. But, he says, he wouldn’t have it any other way. ‘I remember how welcoming Andy Richens was when I first arrived on the station – and I have to say I think everyone here is very nice!’ The Good News Programme is broadcast every Sunday morning. If you would like to hear your favourite hymns while you are in hospital we are always happy to receive your requests. You can contact us via your Hospicom Unit. We have a 24-hour Request line 01932 874433, or our internal line available from all three hospitals free of charge, extension 2017 and your requests can be played during most other programmes as well as Good News. If you would like someone to visit you the Chaplaincy Team can be contacted on Extension 3324.
