Bill Kirkwood
A truly great 'Voice for the Radio' Bill Kirkwood unfortunately passed away on Friday 13th June. A great guy, he was and he will be, greatly missed, Although only a member of HRW for a short time he was greatly admired by many of us. Our thoughts go out to Bill's wife Alison, and Bill's family and friends. The funeral, on Thursday 26th June, at 11am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pyrford and will be followed by a gathering at Bill's favourite pub, The Castle at Ottershaw. Stuart Jones - Chairman
Your Messages . . . .
I never had the opportunity of meeting Bill personally which is my misfortune as every one who did meet with him had lovely comments about his style and personality. I did share a few e-mails with Bill and from those I got the impression that he was putting on a brave face and was listening to the station whilst in hospital. Unfortunately I am unable to get out of a commitment on Thursday 26th June or I would most certainly be there to say farewell and I hope that Stu will give Alison our support and let her know how deeply we cared for Bill. Stuart, we might be moving studios in the near future or finishing studio 1. How about we name it the Bill Kirkwood studio in Bill's memory? Mike Atkinson - Programme Controller
I’m really sorry to hear about the loss. Ben Chai
Such strength...............my thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Sandra Roach
What terribly sad news. I had the good fortune to meet Bill and share several hand overs during our time at that other radio station. He was a real gentleman and having heard from Bill himself about his recent trials and tribulations I concur with Stuart’s opinion. The man’s courage should be an inspiration to us all. RIP Bill - Steve Chapman
I am terribly sorry to hear this news. Although I didn't know Bill I have been thinking of both him and Alison very much in the last few weeks as Stuart has kept us in touch with the news of Bill's illness. My heart goes out to Alison especially and to all those closest to Bill. My heart goes out to all of you who had the joy of working alongside him. He was clearly a remarkable man. There are some with whom is it the most enormous privilege to share even part of life's journey and Bill was clearly one of those people. I cannot be at the service for Bill as, sadly, I am conducting another funeral service at around the same time on that day. But you will all be in my thoughts and prayers. Bill was clearly a most excellent ambassador for the work that all of you at Radio Wey do for us all. We are indebted to him and to you. God Bless you. Judith Allford. Chaplain, ASPH
Please pass on my thoughts and prayers to Bill's family. I never met Bill unfortunately but I did hear many of his radio shows and trailers. He was a very talented broadcaster and a real asset to Radio Wey. Tim Mitchell
I am so sorry to hear about Bill. Can you pass on my condolenses to his wife. I only met him briefly once when he came in the morning for a look round once albeit very briefly but he was nice. Mike, i think thats a great idea to name our new studio after Bill. Best wishes Mandy Morrow
Really sad news, Bill was so positive about doing his show with long term plans despite his condition. Clive Stevens
I did not know Bill personally, but it is very sad news. Roger Manley
I first had the pleasure to meet Bill whilst working briefly for another radio station. His passion for radio was obvious, and that great warm Scottish accent was an instant winner. I was pleased to introduce him to Radio Wey and thrilled when Bill went on-air for us. A great guy with a great heart. This is such a sad loss and my thoughts go to Alison and Bills' family and friends. I would gladly welcome naming our refurbished Studio 1 after Bill as a lasting tribute to a great man. - Peter Bray - Secretary
Please add my condolences to those from everyone else at HRW. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. Jonathan Webster
I am so sorry to hear this sad news and I join with other members of HRW in sending my deepest sympathies to Alison and their family. With your agreement I will suggest to Judith that we include prayers of thanksgiving for Bill’s life and work with HRW during our next St Peter’s Sunday Chapel Service in July. Thank you for all you are doing on behalf of HRW.

I met Bill just before Christmas last year and I was reading travel news during his show. He was a brilliant broadcaster and an all round nice guy. He never let on that anything was wrong and always kept cheerful! He will be much missed by all I'm sure! Please pass my thoughts and condolences on to the family. I think the idea of a Bill Kirkwood studio will be a fitting tribute to a much respected friend and radio colleague . Jon Andrews
